Reflection Young Tae Seo

In my opinion, the most effective and influential type of media is television, especially the commercial. Televisions are owned by almost everyone in the whole world, with the exceptions of people in third world countries. When I watch my favorite shows, SOS 24 (긴급출동 SOS 24) and Gu-Gut-Ie-Al-Go-Ship-Da (그것이알고싶다) , I have to wait for at least 15 commercials, until they actually start. Some commercials are way too repetitive and boring, but the more I watched those commercials, the harder they were imbedded in my mind. I was able to remember what products they were advertising and memorized their slogans and catch-phrases too.

I couldn't just stop watching those commercials because there was a chance that the show could start, when I changed the channel. I don't want to miss any of it. In America and Canada, the commercials are divided into three parts, so that people don't have to wait for the show to begin for five minutes. However in Korea, it doesn't work that way; all the commercials are played, before the show begins.

Because I watched myriads of commercials in Korea and Canada, I always thought that the products that were advertised were great. Then I persuaded my parents to buy those products and 'wasted' considerable amount of money. I try not to watch too many televisions nowadays, to keep my mind 'untainted' and to save my money from disappearing.
