News may be the most popular / influential media that people look at because you can see News everywhere, especially on the television and the Internet.
In this news clip, from CNN, it talks about the hatred rising in US against the Jews. It shows a part where it talks about the book written by Jimmy Carter, Palestine Peace Not Apartheid. This book had statements that outraged Jewish people in the US. The Jewish called the author an anti-Semitist which offended the writer also. So the author talked back to the Jewish about his intentions in writing the book. This was not the only issue that the Jewish felt offended by but there were other people who criticized the Jews through the media.

The Internet - Anne Frank video by Younghee Rhee
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4_genc2PbQ
Anne Frank was one of the victims of Jewish oppression and discrimination. She went through a lot of pain and suffering for such a young child. To avoid from Nazis, her family and their friends moved into a small hiding above some office. They had to be very careful in what they were doing in order to avoid getting detected or suspicion. During her stay there, Anne wrote diaries about the days she lived there. According to her description of her situation, Jews had to wear a special yellow star to indicate that they were Jews. The place that they lived was extremely small and confined. Although no one knew that she was living there, she always lived in fear that someone would find out. One day, Nazis suddenly barged into her doors and captured all the people who were living in there to concentraion camps.
It was heartbreaking that Anne Frank could not have an ordinary life just like any other children because she was a Jew. She went so much sufferings that she did not deserve as well. Despite her adversity, she was optimistic and humane. She cared about the others before herself too. It was so unfortunate that she had to hide from people, get captured by Nazis, and torture to death.

This song is not very offending, compared to other songs that discriminate the Hebrews. It does have some parts that include common stereotypes about the Jews. For example, at one point, Peter Griffin sings, "To teach me how to whine and do my taxes" and "Though by many they're abhorred, Hebrew people I've adored, even though they killed my lord". These lyrics infer that most Jewish people are intelligent and well educated, so they have well-paid occupations, such as doctors, lawyers and accountants and that they they are hated by the Christians for killing Jesus. These lyrics are somewhat true. There are stereotypes that Jewish people tend to whine a lot and many accountants are Jewish. Technically from the Bible, the Jews did choose to crucify Jesus, thus killing him. Still, well-known television show such as Family Guy should not promote these stereotypes and facts on national television. Americans are not the only people watching this show. Millions of people in the world, including the Hebrews might have heard this song too. Instead of using, stereotypes to hurt and discriminate the Jews, the cast of the Family Guy should consider promoting the positive side of the Jews. Only then will racism and discrimination truly end for the Hebrews in this era.

This clip touched me so much because it shows how the Jews were living at the time of Holocaust. I've read the books of Anne Frank's diary which has touched me so much. Anne Frank's diary has helped a lot of people to learn about was happening during that time. Anne Frank has died in such a young age which hurts me so much. She could have been living today since she was born in June 12, 1929 and died in 1945. She would be in the age of 78.
The clip has interesting pictures of Anne Frank and her diary. Even though she was having a hard time because of all the war and Jewish being discriminated by others she was happy to be a Jew. All of the pictures of her shows us how happy she was because her pictures are all smiling. I don't think not even one of her pictures has of her being sad. Her death is really shocking and sad for me because she was only 15 and like just thinking about what if I would have died at that age I would be so scared and just freaked out. I can't imagine her with all the things that she has gone through.

Stereotypes: Younghee Rhee
"What stereotypes do people have about you? What stereotypes do you have about other people? Are stereotypes beneficial or harmful? Why do you think this?"
Stereotype is a thought or belief that people have against race, gender, outlook, or society. When I lived in Holland, many people thought I was Chinese because I was Asian. So every time I passed some kids, they always said something like "Shing chang chong" to imitate Chinese. Another stereotype I receive a lot is I look weak only because I am skinny which annoys me a lot.
I also have stereotypes about other people. I always tend to think all African Americans have talent in basket ball, people with glasses are boring and nerdy, and all muslims are dangerous.
Most of stereotypes are harmful rather than beneficial. In my experience, I was always made fun of being Asian and called me Chinese. It became so irritating that I reacted very aggressively because I was Korean not Chinese, and I felt that I was being completely disrespected. Stereotypes serve to leave negative impression. People judge other races or culture based on stereotypes without even trying to understand or know them. I try my best not to judge people based on stereotypes but on their personality, however; somehow stereotypes come up to my mind first.

Stereotypes
"What stereotypes do people have about you? What stereotypes do you have about other people? Are stereotypes beneficial or harmful? Why do you think this?"
People have a lot of stereotypes towards me. When I first meet someone, they try not to ‘know’ me because I scare them. I didn’t know why but later when they tell me about my first impression, they say my emotions are scary. Although I’m just doing my own thing, people think I’m mad and stressed out. However, as time passes and I get to know the people, they ignore me because they think I’m not as firm as they thought I’d be.
When I see people who smile all day long, I see them as fake. What I mean by this is that inside, they are swearing, but outside, they are being all nice and kind to others.
I personally think that stereotypes are harmful because most of the stereotypes we have is negative and not a lot of stereotypes are positive. Although I hold stereotypes towards other people too, I really don’t like being judged by others. It’s pretty funny how our minds work because even though we don’t like to judge people by their first impression, we tend to do it anyways. I think we’re too used to being judgmental towards others.

Music: Intermarriage Rap Song - Why Jew Should Marry Jewish by Younghee Rhee
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctWJ1zKy0lA
Unlike Borat's song, this song focuses on disparaging Jewish culture specifically marriage ceremony. Most people respect other country's cultures but Jewish culture gets bashed in a lot of ways. Some people mock Hannukah for being similar to Christmas and isolate Jewish from Christmas saying that they have their own holiday when everybody deserves to enjoy Christmas. Jews marry Jews because it is their culture to do so. Like many countries try to preserve their Jews are doing the same thing. It may seem anachronistic but it is their way to carry out their traditions. Therefore, rather than mocking other cultures for being strange, we should respect other cultures as we respect our own.

Discrimination against Jews is also prevalent in music. This song is sung by a Khazakistan man named Borat. The song is basically about problems in his country specifically transportation and Jews. He said he doesnt like transportation just because it is too slow. The reason why he hates Jews is even more ridiculous. Without any substantial evidence, he boldly said Jews rip money out of his people and deserve to be thrown into a well. What was even more surprising is that the crowd sang along with Borat rather than saying that the song is racist.

This short paragraph about this site really hit me because before I started on this blogging, I've never thought about Jews being discriminated. Even though I hear about the Jews in the news how thier life is and how unfair their lives are. I kinda didn't know there were two different kind of Jews. It's kind of wierd how even though they both are Jews, some of them are racial and some of them are non-racist.
This kind of is different then what I thought about the Jews. I really didn't know how the Jews are racists and how they are non-racist. They have their own choice whether they are racist or not because other religions think about others as bad or good. They have their choices and I think the Jews should have their own choices also.

This site relates Jews to Christianity. It says how when Jesus was born, He's a Jew but he claims that He's the son of God. It says in a bad way how Jesus took the Jewish people and made them Christians and it also says how He gave up on his Jewish roots. We still learn today that Jesus is or was Jewish which is really wierd. It also shows how other religion people hates the Jews. It shows how Jews were killed because they were against Christianity. Christians also went against Jews which is really wierd to me since Jesus is also tecnically a Jew.
This site shows how the people don't do anything about descrimination of being a Jew. I think they are just scared to do anything. Other religion people, they usually stand up and go to others and tell others about their religion such as: Christianity and Budaism. Christians go to others or other houses to tell about God and for Budaism, we can see them walk around and since they are dressed differently, people intend to look at them. I've never seen a Jew walk around and tell about their religion.

Like I said, television gives a large influence because it is one of the sources that almost everyone views all around the world. The television shows issues and events that causes racism/discrimination unconsciously. It looks like the television didn’t intend to show racism, however who knows? What if it was done for a reason or purposely, to make us think bad of Jews. Televisions are the best known media that not only influences our lives but also may brainwash us about an issue unconsciously.
Like in this video clip (television news), they show the issue as if it were just a video clip of an event that happened earlier in the day. However, this is unconsciously causing bias because people who view the news would think like “what’s wrong with the Jews?” “Why are they always like that?” and more serious thoughts come up on their heads.

This article was posted on September 5th, 2008, by "IsraelNN.com". Dr. Andrew G. Bostom wrote a book called "The Legacy of Islamic Antisemitism: From Sacred Texts to Solemn History", which contains accurate descriptions about the lives of Jews, living under the Islamic rule. From his 700 page book, he shares a dramatic story of a young Moroccan Jewish girl, named Sol Hachuel. She was offered riches and special privileges, if she agreed to embrace Islam; however, she denied the offer and was imprisoned, tortured and eventually decapitated by the Islamic authorities. Although this happened back in the 1800's, we can see how far the Jews went, in order not to abandon their religion. What Sol did shows how much the Hebrews prioritized their religion, even when they were ruled by the foreigners. It is no wonder why the Jews today absolutely despise other religions, especially Islam. The Hebrews had no choice, but to hide themselves from other communities and religious groups, in order to be protected from possible conflicts. People shouldn't just dislike the Jews for being too prideful or full of themselves. Those are the people who truly don't understand what the people of Israel had to go through, until today. I'm not saying that the Hebrews have the right to be arrogant and cocky in front of other ethnic or religious groups. We have to understand the horrible things that the Hebrews suffered through, in order to truly understand their cultures and people. When we understand their history, racism and discrimination around the world will disappear soon.

Television may be another “major” media that influences a lot of people. Because most people think that televisions tell the truth and they only show the facts, people believe what they see on the television is true. However, this is how the television makes people to believe something that are not true by using their ‘media influence.’
On this news, it talks about the incident where racism was happening in the school. However, the administrators and the faculty of the school kept denying that the issue was not a racist issue but a religion issue. If anyone puts it that way, no one actually cares seriously enough about that issue. For me, I find this as a big problem because although it is a religious issue instead of a racist issue, people are being discriminated because of the other “beliefs” that certain people believe and worship.

Stereotypes - Young Tae Seo
When I first arrived in Canada, people at first thought that I was a fresh immigrant (FOB), who couldn't speak English at all and had no friends. This was technically true because I really had no friends and could not speak English as well as others. But after several months passed by, my English skills have improved quite a bit and I was not much different from other students. I was able to make friends, who I communicate with through MSN every week. People stopped laughing and making fun of me because I was no longer a mute. I was able to break free from those stereotypes others have had on me. It was not easy because Canadians in general were quite stubborn and were not very good at listening to and respecting others' opinions. I think it's because of the stereotype that White people are superior to all other races. It is true that they have kept many different countries as slaves and colonies, but that does not mean they are superior. In my opinion, I think that Canadians and other White people are worse in math than Asians. African Americans tend to be superior in most sports, probably due to their reflexes. Stereotypes can be both beneficial and harmful because when you think of a person, you can't only think of his positive sides. Nobody is perfect in this world, so people have strengths and weaknesses. I think stereotypes depend on the person's attitude. If he has negative and depressed personalities, he will have harmful streotypes about others. But if he was a bright, happy person, he will have beneficial stereotypes about others. It depends on your attitudes toward the world.
Sinny: sterotypes question
"What stereotypes do people have about you? What stereotypes do you have about other people? Are stereotypes beneficial or harmful? Why do you think this?"
Other people people think of me as a Brazilian since I'm from Brazil and also as a person who's outgoing. I tend to go to people to talk to them or when I get to know people, I open myself to them. I love getting to know new people and learning about the others. Some people might see me as a tennis captain, or a cheerleader since that's what I'm involved in school. The elementary kids would call me "Miss Sinny" since I coached elementary gymnastics.
I think of others as what they are involved in mostly. When I describe people I intend to describe them not in physical way but in what they do. If they are involved in sports, I would describe them as somekind of player or the captain or whatever their position is. Sometimes if it's not possible to describe the person as in what they do then I do describe them physically whether they are tall or short or what kind of style they wear. Everyone has different style of how they dress up or if the person is girl, they have their own style of putting on make up. Usually that's how we communicate to talk about others.
Sterotypes are harmful and beneficial because when we describe a person, we can describe the person in a good way or we can describe the person in a bad way. If the person has a bad style of wearing clothes, then we intend to describe them in a bad way. It's beneficial because we can describe them and imagine who they are. Mostly, I think it's beneficial because sterotypes helps others to describe the other person. Usually people don't say negative things about others which in my opinion that it's more beneficial then being harmful.

This article was written in August 6th, 2008 by the DPA news agency. It talks of the German Jews, who complained about the lack of protection from racism. Although discrimination, racial violence and anti-Semitism have been problems in Germany, the country's Central Council of Jews demanded that more should be done to protect the Hebrews and the other minorities. This is quite surprising because many people have assumed that racism ended in Germany long ago; however, that is not true. The Hebrews are still suffering from discrimination, although the German government did take necessary actions. However, this issue is not only caused by the lack of protection from the government, but also the Jews themselves. Instead of complaining about the problems they are facing, they should attempt to take care of things by themselves for once. It is true that their nation has suffered immensely and had problems settling in. Nevertheless, that does not mean that they have the rights to rely on others, in order to solve their own problems. They should stop alienating themselves from their own communities and begin to communicate with other ethnic groups and communities. The lack of communication between the Hebrews and other communities has caused many conflicts in the world. They have gotten themselves in this situation and I think it is time for them to fight through their own problems this time.

Television Show - South Park - Young Tae Seo

From this video, Kyle, who is one of the main protagonist on this show, mourns and sings why he can't have Christmas like other normal kids do. He mourns over the fact that he can't receive presents from Santa because he doesn't or can't celebrate Christmas. He also complains of the fact that he is a Jew. Because everyone of his friends celebrate Christmas, he wants to fit in and celebrate with them, but he knows he can't because he's a hebrew. This video reminds the viewers that while the majority of the people in America celebrate Christmas, Jewish people don't. They celebrate Hanukkah instead, which takes place during Christmas season. Since America and other countries mostly care about the majority of the citizens, (considering that America is a democratic country) they tend to forget the minority, which includes Hebrews. Celebrating Christmas might be a way of hurting the Hebrews during Hanukkah. During the Christmas season, companies tend to advertise their products through television, radio and newspaper to inform the citizens that it is time to buy presents for their loved ones. However, Hanukkah is rarely mentioned. In order to create a society with no prejudice and racism, it is necessary to celebrate all of the holidays from different cultures, including Hanukkah.
